REGENERATIVE FINANCE FOR FOREST AND FOOD SYSTEM TRANSFORMATION

RF4 is dedicated to addressing the urgent need to unlock regenerative finance, catalysing a transformative shift in forest and food economic systems, and empowering the communities that depend on them.

OUR GLOBAL CHALLENGE

The global food system is a major contributor to environmental degradation, driving deforestation, wildlife decline, excessive water usage, and pollution. It is directly responsible for 22% of global greenhouse gas emissions, rising to 34% when including indirect sources like waste and transportation.

Traditional finance often overlooks the long-term environmental and social impacts of investments, while policy-making lags behind, hindering the growth of innovative solutions and renewable energy. This is especially critical in emerging markets. To meet the Global Biodiversity Framework’s objectives, an estimated USD 200 billion per year in innovative financial solutions for nature is required (OECD 2023).

RF4 is designed to unlock regenerative finance, driving a transformative shift in the forest and food economic systems, benefiting both the environment and the communities that depend on them. RF4 proposes a comprehensive framework that integrates:

Digital Infrastructure: Including biodiversity credits to regenerate natural capital.

Science-Policy Frameworks: Innovating policy approaches to support sustainable development.

Social Networks and Communications: Strengthening connections and awareness to foster collaboration and impact.

REGENERATIVE FINANCE AS A SOLUTION

LONG TERM OUTCOMES

Increased Adoption of Regenerative Finance:
Enhanced agricultural sustainability, leading to more restoration and conservation of forests, particularly in the Global South. Impacts measured in hectares per year, with positive effects on biodiversity and soil health.

Improved Measurement:
Development of robust tracking and reporting mechanisms for high-integrity biodiversity credits, enabling informed decision-making and investments. Impacts measured by revenue generated from biodiversity credits through project partners.

Strengthened Policy Frameworks:
Support for regenerative finance across the entire food system, accelerating the shift towards sustainable forest and food systems. Impacts measured by media outreach, high-level policy events, lobbying efforts, and policy changes per year.
